Volunteers Needed!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Annapolis Valley relies heavily on strong volunteer support.  All the agency programs are delivered, with staff support, by caring members of our community who want to make a difference in the lives of young people.

The agency also needs volunteers for the many committees, fundraisers, community events, and the board.

The following opportunities exist:

Board of Directors - 5 vacancies for Directors

The board is responsible for the governance of the organization and ensuring the organization is adequately funded to allow program delivery.

Clothing Collection Program

The agencies clothing collection program is a new initiative where used clothing and other textiles are collected and sold to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax to generate revenue for programs in the Annapolis Valley.

The Clothing Collection Committee currently has 4 vacancies.  The committee is responsible for ensuring this initiative is supported and growing this source of revenue.  There are also opportunities for volunteers to help with the clothing collection from sites, bins, and through clothing drives.

Big Night Out

Big Night Out is a fundraising dinner and auction started in 2013 as part of our 100th Anniversary Celebrations.  We are hoping that this even will generate revenue for our Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs to help match the nearly 100 kids on our waiting list.

The committee is seeking volunteers to help solicit sponsors, collect prizes and auction items, and to help work the event in September.

Big Brother & Big Sister Program

We are always looking for those special individuals who can make the commitment of 3-4 hours every week to spend with a child who would benefit from some one on one time with another caring adult.  If you are 18 years of age and interested in being a kid again you might be right for these programs.

Game On & Go Girls Programs

The Game On & Go Girls programs run Monday to Friday for 5-6 hours a day with groups of 10-15 boys and 10-15 girls aged 8 and up.  A new group of kids participates each week and the location rotates around the Annapolis Valley. The program engages kids in activities and discussions focused on making healthy decisions in life.

Office Volunteers

Have some free time through the week?  We can always use help in the office answering the phone, sending out newsletters, and processing applications of potential Bigs and Littles.

Do you have experience in a social services related field?  Interested in working behind the scenes with Big Brothers Big Sisters?  We also have opportunities for volunteers to help in the recruitment and screening of volunteers mentors.
