Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Annapolis Valley has been creating friendships since 1975. We started out matching needy children with Big Brothers or Big Sisters in Kings County but we now serve Annapolis and West Hants Counties as well. Our service area runs from Mt. Uniacke, NS to Bear River, NS.

We share the vision of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada which is that every child in Canada who needs a mentor has a mentor. To achieve this in the communities we serve we have adopted the following Mission Statement: We commit to the young people of our community that we will be leaders in providing them with the highest quality, volunteer based mentoring programmes.

Achieving our goals will take us beyond the traditional one-on-one Big/Little match and we are developing new mentoring programmes such as In-School Mentoring, and Big Bunch. One-on-one matches will remain as the core of our programmes and we expect that many volunteers who start out in one of the new programmes will eventually become a Big Brother, Big Sister or (with a spouse or partner) a Big Couple.

Our agency has a dedicated and hard-working staff of three who are supported by many community volunteers and an enthusiastic Board of Directors.
